Privacy notice

Last updated: 4 October 2026

Case by Case is run by Ashley Nichols, an individual based in Ireland, who is responsible for any personal information collected through this site. This notice explains what is collected and what happens to it.

What this site does not do

This site does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. It does not load fonts, scripts or other content from third-party services, and it does not store anything in your browser.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact form, we collect your name, your email address, your message and whether you ticked the box to say you are a journalist. We use this information only to read and reply to your message. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not share your details with anyone else. Our legal basis for using this information is our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us.

Sharing a story

When you share a story, we collect the story itself, the name you ask us to show if you give one, and your email address if you give one. Stories can include sensitive information about you, so we ask for your explicit consent before you send one, and that consent is our legal basis for using it. If we publish your story, the story and the name you chose appear on the Our stories page. Your email address is never published. You can ask us to remove your story at any time through the contact form, using the reference code you were given. Stories we do not publish are deleted within 12 months.

Where your message is stored and for how long

Messages are stored in a database run by Lovable, the service that hosts this site, using the infrastructure providers it relies on. They hold the messages on our behalf. The database is hosted in the European Union. Ashley Nichols is the only person who reads them. Messages are deleted within 12 months of being received, or sooner if you ask.

Taking action

The links on the Take action and policies pages open other websites, your own email app or your phone. We do not see who you contact or what you send. The "Copy message" and "Copy link" buttons copy text to your device and send nothing to us. If you use a share button, the platform you share to handles your information under its own privacy policy.

Technical information

Like every website, the servers that deliver this site receive your IP address and basic details about your browser in order to send you the pages you ask for, and the hosting provider may keep this information in its logs for a period. We do not use this information to identify you or to build a profile of you.

Your rights

Under data protection law you can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. To do any of these, send a message through the contact form. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie (opens in a new tab).

Changes to this notice

If this notice changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
